Joe Borowski has grown up in Central Ohio, which should make him an expert on all the businesses in town. But you’d be surprised, he said, at just how many get missed.

“There are a lot of cool businesses here that you would never know existed,” said the Director of Valuation Services at GBQ Partners, LLC.” They’re really good at what they do. But if you never come into contact with them, you’d never know.”

Lucky for Borowski, a Dublin Coffman High School grad who earned a business economics degree from Miami University, he gets to learn about a variety of businesses here in the capital city every single day.

“It’s great to work with hundreds of local business owners,” said Borowski. “That’s the part I enjoy most about the job. Getting to meet local business owners and hear their stories and how they got there.”

GBQ Partners, LLC is Columbus’ largest, locally-owned, accounting firm.

“We value privately-held businesses,” said the New Albany resident. “You own a business and you want to know what it’s worth, you might want to sell it, any sort of transaction with your business. That’s what I’ve done for almost 13 years. I’ve valued over 1,000 companies.”

Borowski also participates on the board for the Columbus chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth. But his passion for improving the lives of children is highlighted in his service on the regional board for Make-A-Wish of Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana.

And when he’s not making life better for businesses, Borowski heads to Cap City Diner for a favorite meal.

“I’m a comfort food type person,” he said. “And then I really like The Top Steakhouse in Bexley.”

When he and his wife have guests to Columbus, he recommends German Village for the food, COSI for the kids, Clippers or Buckeye tailgating for sports fans, and, of course, the Columbus Zoo.

“It has been cool to see the Zoo through my son’s eyes,” he said.
