Nicole Phillips on Organizing COSI’s Bump, Set, Science

COSI's Bump Set Science

By Rebecca Bailey, COSI Director of Individual Giving & Events

Nonprofits around the city depend on the creativity of many different people working at COSI and out in the community. I had a chance to talk to our new COSI Young Professionals (YP) Board Chair Nicole Phillips about Bump, Set, Science, COSI’s party with a purpose.

Rebecca: Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Nicole: I’m a Senior Consultant of Finance at Nationwide Insurance. I was born and raised in Westerville but now live in Grandview.

Rebecca: What’s your favorite memory of COSI?
Nicole: One of my favorite COSI memories as a kid was the day I finally got up the nerve to ride the High Wire Unicycle. After watching other people ride it every time I visited, I finally took my turn and you couldn’t have pried the smile off of my face! These days I love being able to support COSI in my capacity as YP Board Chair. It feels great to still be involved with COSI after all these years and to help raise funds to ensure that thousands more kids are able to make those same great memories today!

Rebecca: Why get involved with COSI?
Nicole: COSI isn’t just for kids anymore! In addition to all of the great activities and exhibits that COSI offers that are catered to families there are a ton of events open to kids of all ages. Events like COSI After Dark, Blast!, and our upcoming Bump, Set, Science volleyball tournament are all great ways for those 21 and over to get involved with COSI.

Rebecca: What is Bump, Set, Science? Tell us a little more about the event.
Nicole: Bump, Set, Science is a sand volleyball tournament hosted by the COSI Young Professional Board on Saturday, Aug. 19 at Woodlands Backyard. All registered teams will receive food and beverages as well as passes for COSI After Dark, a monthly event just for those 21+, so participants can come check out COSI and all they are helping to support. Prizes will be awarded to the top team. The event is open to all skill levels from the avid athlete to the casual volleyball enthusiast.

Rebecca: Why is an event like this a fun way to support COSI?
Nicole: There is nothing better than playing some sand volleyball and enjoying some drinks with friends on a warm summer day… except maybe getting to do those things for a good cause! This event is a great way to engage with the members of COSI’s YP Board and hear more about all the exciting things currently happening at COSI all while having a good time and helping to raise money for a great cause.

Rebecca: What else are you involved with in your community, professional or personal life?
Nicole: In addition to chairing COSI’s Young Professional Board, I am also the president of the Notre Dame Club of Columbus (Go Irish!) and an active member of the Athletic Club of Columbus. In my free time I also enjoy playing golf and watching college football.

Bump, Set, Science will be held on Saturday, Aug. 19 from noon to 4:30 p.m. at Woodland’s Backyard. For more information, visit https://cosi.org/adults/bump-set-science.
