Give us a snapshot of your career path: Growing up, I thought I was going to be a teacher. In 2011, I applied to work as a host at Rusty Bucket Bloomfield, MI (where I am from). The restaurant was getting ready to open that year and I was involved in sales blitzing the local community in anticipation of the restaurant opening. Shortly after, I met Kate Sumption (Director of Marketing for Rusty Bucket Restaurant and Tavern) and ultimately decided to change my path and pursue a career in marketing! I spent the summer of 2014 and 2015 in Columbus, OH for internships with the marketing team at the [Cameron Mitchell Restaurants] Home Office. In the fall of 2016, I accepted a full-time position as a Marketing Coordinator at the Home Office and relocated to Columbus, OH. I will celebrate 10 years with Rusty Bucket Restaurant and Tavern and Cameron Mitchell Restaurants in November 2021.
What gets you up in the morning? What keeps you going throughout the workweek?
A new day with a fresh start is what gets me up in the morning. I look forward to meetings during the workday and plans with my husband or family and friends to get me through the workweek.
What advice or mentors have helped guide you along the way?
I am incredibly grateful to Kate Sumption (Director of Marketing, Rusty Bucket Restaurant and Tavern) and Heather Leonard (Senior Vice President of Marketing, Cameron Mitchell Restaurants) for their mentorship and advice through my time with our company. They have helped me cultivate who I am today and I have grown professionally and personally because of their leadership.
What do you do or where do you go to unwind?
I like to take my dog for a walk or sit on the patio when the weather is nice to unwind.
What are a few of your favorite local spots in Columbus?
Walking around the Scioto Mile, exploring the metro parks with my dog, trying new local restaurants.
When you were a kid, what did you say you wanted to be when you grew up?
I thought I was going to be an elementary school teacher.
What books or podcasts are you reading/listening to right now?
A Year of Positive Thinking by Cyndie Spiegel
What does it mean to you to be chosen for the Next Up Columbus award?
It is an honor to be recognized for this award. Columbus is full of incredible young leaders, and I am humbled to be included amongst this group!
If someone were to ask you what the “pulse” of Columbus is, what would you tell them?
Columbus is a vibrant city full of incredibly diverse people. Everywhere you look there is something new going on; whether it be a new building being built, or an entrepreneur starting their business, Columbus has put itself on the map.
