Jayme Hitchcock, 31, has a knack for the human side of business. Her superpower is understanding people and how to make them feel comfortable and get what they want and need out of their city. Fitting then, that she’s the Community Manager for Yelp! Here in Columbus.
“I handle all of the marketing and event planning for Yelp in the city of Columbus,” said the Ohio University graduate, who earned a degree in communications. “I help connect members of the community and consumers with awesome local businesses.”
It’s a job she worked hard to get. A college friend recruited her to Arizona to work for Yelp, where she learned about the community manager role. But, she was “only willing to do it in Columbus.”
“So, I kicked ass at work, so when it became available, I would get it,” said the Zanesville native, who admits she’s from “everywhere.” “I moved to Chicago for three years and then the opportunity came up in Columbus at the end of last summer and I came back.”
And as extroverted as she is with her job, checking out live music in her personal time, and practicing yoga, her favorite past time is somewhat quieter.
“I love collecting plants,” she said. “I have an extensive collection of indoor plants and I love tending to my garden outside. I practice propagation and I love exploring new nurseries, boutiques, and local potters.”
Her Victorian Village neighborhood is a perfect place for plants, but for other things, too.
“I love that in less than five minutes I can walk to a park or a hip taco spot for margaritas at happy hour,” said Hitchcock. “I love that it’s versatile. And it’s safe. I feel very safe here.”
