Give us a snapshot of your path
I grew up in Powell and went to college at Miami University. I have always had a strong sense of community and felt that I wanted to plant roots in Columbus and establish my career here, so I decided to take internships and attend law school in D.C. and Virginia to see another part of the country. While in law school, my desire to return to Columbus solidified and I returned home to take a position at my firm and have happily been here since.

What gets you up in the morning? And what gets you through the workweek?
A genuine passion for my career and a joy of exploration, both within Columbus and across the country.

What advice or mentors have helped guide you along the way?
I owe much to my partners, Keith Shumate and Traci Martinez, as well as to Tom Katzenmeyer of GCAC, for their advice and wisdom over the years.

What do you do or where do you go to unwind?
Being physically active is how I both recharge and unwind. You can typically find me at Modo Yoga, the Fitness Loft in German Village, or golfing at Columbus Country Club.

What are a few of your favorite local spots in Columbus?
Lindey’s for the patio, LandGrant for the beer garden, Book Loft for the adventure, and Pelino’s Pasta for the wine and dinner.

When you were a kid, what did you say you wanted to be when you grew up?
A cartoonist.

What books or podcasts are you reading/listening to right now?
I am currently reading Red Rising by Pierce Brown to scratch my science-fiction and nerd itch, and The War with Hannibal by Livy to scratch my histroy and nerd itch.

What does it mean to you to be chosen for the Next Up Columbus award?
It is an honor. Columbus is an exceptional city that has achieved so much and yet has such a high ceiling. To be included with those who are having a substantive impact on our community’s growth is an honor.

If someone were to ask you what the “pulse” of Columbus is, what would you tell them?
We are a young and passionate city, and it manifests in a variety of ways. Be it our rabid sports fanbases, young and hungry workforce, or combination of established national companies that have decided to plant a foothold in Central Ohio and those businesses that were born here, we are a city that expects greatness and works to attain it.

The Next Up Columbus Awards highlight emerging leaders who are connectors and ambassadors in central Ohio and who are making a positive impact on the future of Columbus. The Columbus Young Professionals Club would like to offer special thanks to our 2024 co-presenters, Discover Financial, Columbus Chamber of Commerce and Edison Brewing Co. for their support of this year’s awards program.
