Even her name spells out her career. Columbus native Tonnisha English, a Groveport High School graduate who earned a communications and public relations degree from Ohio Dominican University, ended up wielding words for her career as the CEO of her own communications company, TJE Communications.
“I started doing work for people—writing a press release here or a marketing plan there,” she said of building a portfolio that eventually led to steady clients, mostly comprised of small businesses. “I love working with small businesses who are just starting out and don’t know where to go.”
English is also a board member with the organization 1Girl.
“I was a facilitator for one of the programs in college. The idea is that if you empower one girl, you can change an entire community,” said English. “We provide leadership skills and help girls keep that confidence. We have college age girls facilitating the program in middle schools across Ohio.”
In her spare time, this mom enjoys her Pine Hills neighborhood near the Whitehall/Reynoldsburg area.
“There are so many kids. I loved that there were families around,” she said. “It’s just a really nice neighborhood. Bought my house there about three years ago and I don’t plan on leaving ever.”
English, who said her favorite Columbus restaurant is The Pearl, recommends visitors to the capital city go to the Short North area.
“There’s something for everybody down there.”
Tonnisha was named to our annual list of 52 Young Professionals You Should Know in Columbus – one for every week in the year!
