Rachel Roman, 28, loves people—and she especially loves guiding them through company growth and professional growth as Updox’s Director of Talent Management.

“I’m a hands-on H.R. People Operations Manager, experienced in leading start-up companies through periods of sustained, rapid growth, without letting the wheels come off,” said the University of Kentucky graduate. “I facilitate change and empower teams by acting as a thought partner and HR trusted advisor.”

Roman got to her job by taking her personal leap of faith into a professional growth journey.

“After working one year in corporate America, I decided to take a ‘risk’ and join a privately held SaaS company with another person on this list – Chris Rutter,” she said. “The rest is history.”

Roman, who loves to eat at Marcella’s—and have drinks at Juniper—is also big on giving back to her community, acting as an advisory board member at Rev1 START.

“START’s goal is to rally the Columbus startup community around BIG ideas that will help fund the ‘starting up’ of initiatives to improve our community,” said Roman, also a volunteer at Habitat for Humanity ReStore. “START funds initiatives in: Stem education, Workforce Development, Sustainable food solutions, and Connecting Communities.”

Roman, in her free time, hangs out with her hound dog, Roca, in her “walkable” Italian Village neighborhood with “amazing neighbors.” When friends come to town, they hang in the Village before Roman takes them around town.

“I’d recommend biking down Scioto Mile and wandering over to German Village—head to Brown Bag Deli and spend time at the Book Loft,” she said. “Columbus has a LOT to offer.”
